The greatest compliment you can pay to a friend is to introduce them to others as your friend. You might even call them your best friend. It’s a badge of honor to be called a friend. For me, friendship is easy. I tend to believe the best about people and accept them at face value. Sometimes, I must admit, I get disappointed. Sooner or later, some of the people you consider a friend will let you down. They are NOT what they said they would be.
Yet, one friend I have had most of my life has never let me down. That’s not to say that He always lets me have my way, or that He considers my every wish – no, He has never let me down because I can trust Him to do what He says He will do. I can trust Him to keep His word. God knew – at the beginning of time – that I would need such a friend. (and so would you). He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to repair the damage done by man’s disobedience which separated God from man – to make a way for us to be reunited and become best friends. God knew that the darkness of evil would cloud my judgement and cause me to do things I know are not right or good. God calls that ‘sin’. He sent His Son to pay for my sins with His own life. – I know, it’s hard to believe. When I accept the payment of Jesus’ life on the cross of Calvary, He pays my sin debt and I am totally free of the consequence of sin! I am a child of God, in right standing with God, all because of the life and death of Jesus.
But He did not stay dead. His physical resurrection that was witnessed by many people assures me that I, too, can look forward to life after death. I am a child of God and a joint heir with Jesus Christ! Even though heaven’s allurement is grand, it’s not all that I have to look forward to. I have the assurance that every day the power of God walks with me and directs my steps. When bad things come – and they do – He is beside me with strength, guidance, and comfort. I can recommend Him to you as a best friend because He has been a best friend to me. The promises He makes in the Holy Bible are promises I can count on.
Won’t you consider this grand friendship? When the world let’s you down and you feel you have no place to turn, turn to the Bible, read the scriptures listed below, and invite Jesus into your heart! He will not disappoint if you follow His teachings. You will never regret a decision as great as this! And someday, I can meet you in heaven.
We are all people of sin – Romans 3:23
Sin costs us a price – death, separation from God. Jesus came to make possible our way back to God – Romans 6:23 and 5:8
Our part in accepting God’s plan – Romans 10:9-10
We can count on God’s salvation – Romans 10:13
Just in case you are wondering how to pray – here’s a simple example: Dear God, I recognize my unworthiness and my condition of sin. I also believe Jesus Christ, Your only Son, died on the cross of Calvary to pay for my mistakes. I accept His payment for my sins. I invite Him into my heart to be my Savior and Lord. Thank You for this marvelous gift of salvation! In Jesus Christ’s name, Amen
